Chapter # 33 – A Step Backward : Choices –

“I’m glad that day is over! These days are really getting to long for my liking!” Alissa said as she walked out of the door of the last class of the day alongside Jessica and Brooke.

“I know what you mean the days are getting too long, at least we can look forward to the Christmas Break!” Jessica said hopefully. “There are only twenty-five days until Christmas, and only nineteen more days until Christmas Break starts.”

“You do know what that means don’t you?” Brooke asked quietly as they turned a corner going in the direction of the school gym.

“No what?” Alissa asked confused.

“It means that exams are going to be starting in less then fourteen days!” Jennifer said as her and Madison joined the conversation. “We only have two weeks left to study! And there are only a few exams days!”

“Exactly, so we should all start studying now!” Madison put in.

“We should really have exceptions from exams!” Jessica pointed out.

“Yeah really we are fighting the forces of evil, who plan on turning Earth as we know it into a dark dismal place where no one will live freely but as slaves to a race of demons and other dark creatures.” Alissa said in a mater-of-fact tone.

Jennifer nodded. “We spend our nights fighting Emperor Valico’s little minions for what? For nothing! We never really get any thanks.” She said crossing her arms across her chest.

“You think that people would be more thankful of what we are doing, but no they don’t even know what is going on in the first place!” Madison put in plain words as she opened the Gym’s large double doors.

“I say we go and propose this to the principle! Maybe, just maybe after we tell him that we are the Stellar Scouts who are protecting this small little city from the forces of evil which consist of a demon named Emperor Valico who sends out a pair of dim witted brothers name Kurai-ki and Shi-ryuu which are out to steal the pure Heart Stones from people. Just so they can make an eternal cloud of darkness cover the land, enslaving all of us to a demon who has been trapped under earth’s surface for over two thousand years. Oh and they are also looking for THE six Pure Heart Stones to complete in breaking the seal which holds Emperor Valico in his prison. Maybe just maybe the principle.” Alissa was soon cut off.

“Will send us all to the Insane Asylum once we finish our far fetched story.” Brooke explained.

“It is a good idea and all, but there really in no way that we are going to get out of writing exams this term.” Jessica put in.

“Alright, alright, lets just focus on this training to keep Eclipse and Nova off our backs! Is Eclipse always on your back?” Jennifer asked as she turned to her red haired friend.

With a nod Jessica explained. “He is always bothering me to not only train with my free time but to keep my marks up! It is almost impossible to do!”

“I’d bet! I am kind of glad that I don’t have a Guardian Dog always on my back trying to get me to do this and that.” Suddenly Madison found herself sprawled out on the floor.

“How is this for having a Guardian Dog on your back?” Eclipse asked as he stepped off the orange haired girls back.

“Now girls, we have to get to work right away! You have to train, then tonight you should all come over to Jessica’s house after supper for a study group.” Nova said softly as she stepped up in front of the girls.

Five groans escaped the girl’s lips as they went to the various parts of the Gym to train.

“Kurai-ki, Shi-ryuu step forth and tell me what you are planning to do? There is little time left for the both of you to continue with your pointless games, it just isn’t needed.” Emperor Valico’s voice boomed.

The smaller green demon stepped forth. “I agree Emperor, Shi-ryuu and myself have made a plan which will ensure us a group of Stellar Senshi without any hope.”

Shi-ryuu stepped forth and rudely shoved his little brother out of his way. “Yes we are going to attack someone who is close to Sailor Sun, someone which would affect Jessica Walker greatly and the rest of the Stellar Senshi making them all easy targets to extract their heart stones from them.” The tall greyish purple demon explained.

“Very well, but do not fail me, it has happened one to many times! You can no longer waist my time or I will find better and strong minions who will serve my purpose without some much time wasted.”

“Yes Emperor Valico, we will promise you a Heart Stone by the end of this day, and what a day it will be once we have it!”

“Alright now be off, I have work to do, where is the beast?” He questioned to no one in particular as the two demons left his room and made their way down the dark murky hallways without a word to one another.

“You are doing well! Keep training like that everyday girls and you will be ready in no time to fight and beat Emperor Valico and his army.” Eclipse said encouragingly to the five girls, which left the Gym with heads held low, sweat dripping down their brows and arms hung by their sides.

“Yes very good my Princesses, I will see you all later at Jessica’s, do not forget to bring your book bags.” Nova said kindly as she left with Jennifer.

Everyone said their good-byes and began to walk home. Jessica and Alissa went on their bikes. Not much longer and the roads and sidewalks could very likely be to slippery to bike on.

Alissa and Jessica, along with Eclipse didn’t speak a word on their slow bike ride to their houses. Eclipse was the first to break the silence. “Jessica, you have to pick up Jon and Hannah from school don’t you?”

“Ummm humm.” Was all that Jessica could manage. The group of girls hand been worked hard from two o’clock in the afternoon until four-thirty, then around five thirty they would get to study until eight o’clock.

Steering their bikes over to the Elementary School part of Halifax Grammar School Jessica lazily got off her bike and walked to the front door. Almost running face to face with Jason.

“Hey imagine seeing you here!” He said happily as he walked his little sister out of the school. “Jessica please meet my little sister Becky.” The child who looked around the same age as Jon smiled up and waved her hand.

“Please to meet you Becky. I am sure that Jason here is pain in the butt as a big brother isn’t he?” Jessica asked with a silly smirk.

Becky only nodded her head slightly then giggled before she ran off to the parked car waiting. “See you around Jessica.” Jason waved a goodbye before Becky pulled him off.

Jessica walked further into the school. Jon and Hannah had stayed after school for the indoor soccer team. They were both on it and so was Becky by the look of the uniform she held in her small hands.

Looking around for where Jon and Hannah could be she smiled as she spotted Kevin a few feet away. Suddenly getting some energy back she skipped over to him and put her hands over his eyes.

Instantly smiling Kevin turned to face Jessica. “You did make it! Well then I am guessing by the tired look on your face that you would like a drive back? Jon and Hannah will only be a few more minutes.” Kevin pointed out.

“A drive would be great we can put mine and Alissa’s bikes in the trunk, she is coming up for supper, then everyone is coming over for a study group.” Jessica said with a deep sigh.

“I’m glad that I don’t have to go through all of this training.” Kevin said as he ran his fingers through his blonde hair.

“Oh you will, Eclipse said that he and Nova are going to put you through the same thing that Alissa, Jennifer, Brooke, Madison and myself went through today.” She said smiling.

“Oh great!” He said as he turned to the locker room doors where Jon emerged from the boys and Hannah shortly after from the girls. “Alright then lets go!”

“Do we get to get an ice cream cone on the way back home Kevin?” Jon asked as he ran out to wrap his arms around Kevin’s muscular legs. Hannah followed.

Kevin shook his head, blonde hair slightly tossing. “After supper I said you silly little kids!” He said as he ruffled both Hannah’s and Jon’s hair.

“Come on you two lets get you your ice cream!” Kevin said as he opened the front door. Jon and Hannah both ran through it and into the parked car putting on their seat belts they were ready to go.

“Well that was quick.” He said as he turned to Jessica and the girls. “Do you want to come along as well? There isn’t enough room in the car but we can wait there for you and you could all walk, I am just going down the road to the Centra Café.

Jessica turned to her friends she didn’t even have to say anything and they all nodded their head happily. “Alright we will see you there Kevin!” Jessica said as she smiled warmly.

Kevin got into the car, bucked his seat belt and drove off down the road. Jessica and her friends quickly put on their winter coats and mittens; the nights were rally starting to cool down.

Kevin, Jon and Hannah stepped out of the car and made their way into the warm café. “There is our target, a very good choice Kurai-ki.” Shi-ryuu said as he looked in through the small windows of the café at the trio that sat at a window seat with their hot fudge sundaes.

“When will we attack?! We want to do it before those pesky Stellar Senshi show up to ruin the day!” Kurai-ki pointed out.

“Oh any time would be good, we just to figure out who is going to do the distraction.” Shi-ryuu explained. “How about you do some of your vine magic    and have the entire café covered with your vines, not only will that keep people out of the way, but it will get everyone tired up nicely.”

Kurai-ki nodded as pointed with his green fingers to the ground below, small ridges could been seen going towards the café which tunneled under the floor and were soon trapping the customers.

Kevin, Jon and Hannah were still unaware of the vines, which had trapped everyone else in the café. Kevin went to go stand up and soon found that he could not. He looked down at the floor and saw that there are a series of vines covering the floor; some hand latched themselves to his feet as well as Jon and Hannah’s. Slowly working their way up their legs unfelt.

Looking around frantically for something to do. He could not transform in front of Jon and Hannah. Then they would know who Kevin really was. Hannah screamed as she looked down to her arm, the vines began to work faster now covering her mouth and strapping her to the bench. Jon was the next one, both passing out from fear.

Kevin tried to reach into his pocket but it was too late, his arms were now strapped to the bench. He couldn’t reach his transformation wand.

“Oh I can’t wait to have some good hot chocolate! I don’t know how your brother and sister can possibly eat chocolate sundaes! It is just too cold for that!” Brooke said as she turned to look at Jessica.

“I don’t know either they . . . “ Jessica trailed off as she gasped looking at the vine-covered café. Instantly reaching into her pocket she pulled out her transformation medallion. The four other girl followed suit.

"SOLARIS STAR . . . . ."

"POLLUX STAR . . . . ."

"CAPELLA STAR . . . . ."

"SHAULA STAR . . . . ."

"SPICA STAR . . . . ."

Then all together they called out, "POWER!” Jessica then closed her eyes. The Solaris Medallion disappeared into many little orange and gold sparkles; this caused her body to shimmer the colors of the sparkles as they fell onto her body.

Then her silver tiara appeared with the red jewel in the center. The jewel then emitted a blinding flash of orange light that surrounded Jessica giving her the feeling of the bright morning sun on her body.

Then a swirl of orange and gold sparkles warped around her body moving upward as it spun around her body. The body suit of her uniform then appeared. And the bows came out of the heart in the center of her chest. Sparkling golden rings then went around her feet forming boots. Then more sparkling rings went around her arms forming her gloves. Soon afterward the golden sparkles went around her waist forming her skirt.

At that point there was a large burst of golden sparkles that flew up into the air, when the sparkles fell to the ground Sailor Sun was then revealed fully transformed. She did her transformation pose. She stood there with one hand across her forehead and the other across her stomach with her legs together. Her long red hair then blew to the side.

Alissa shouted out the phrase as she held her transformation item above her head. Alissa then closed her eyes then her transformation wand disappeared.

Her hair was then lifted off of her shoulders. I strong gust picked up and swirled around her. Then her silver tiara appeared with the white jewel in the center. The jewel them emitted a blinding flash of gray light that surrounded Alissa giving her the feel of a warm spring breeze blowing through her hair and across her face.

Then the swirling air divided into rings and two rings went around her body moving upward as it spun around her body. The body suit of her uniform then appeared. And the bow came out of the heart in the center of her chest. Gray rings of air went around her feet forming boots. Then more gray rings went around her arms forming her gloves. Soon afterward the gray air went around her waist forming her skirt.

At that point the wind picked up greatly, her hair was blowing wildly. From above a tornado came down and circled around Alissa blocking her from view. When the tornado died down and her hair slowly dropped back resting on her shoulders. Sailor Pollux was reveled fully transformed. She did her transformation pose. Her pose was her standing with both of her hands on her cheeks, looking very innocent and harmless. Her head was tilted a little bit to the side. Her legs were apart, one was a little ahead then the other.

Jennifer shouted out these words as she held her transformation medallion above her head. She then closed her eyes then her transformation medallion disappeared. Her hair was then lifted off of her back.

Then her silver tiara appeared with the green jewel in the center. The jewel them emitted a blinding flash of green light that surrounded the girl giving her the feel of leaves brushing across her face and around her body.

Then from the ground vines formed at the bottom of her feet. The vines then slowly moved up her body. Her legs were then covered from view. The vines continued to move up her body, her waist was then hidden, the vines continued to move up and they covered her upper body then they moved down her arms.

Then there was a large burst of green light and the vines started to move away from her body slowly moving down. The vines revealed her gloves then her body suit was formed. Next came her skirt and the vines completely disappeared and her boots were reviled. The heart in the center of her chest was reveled.

From the heart came more vines they formed her bow. Then the bow in her back appeared with the vines.

At that point more vines appeared and they grew upward. The vines keep growing up until they were above her head. They then began to wrap around her body causing a wall of vines around her. The vines tied into a point above Jennifer's head. When the vines died down and the girl's hair slowly drops back resting on her shoulders. And Sailor Capella was reveled fully transformed. She did her transformation pose. Her pose was her standing with her right arm stretched out in front of her. Her left arm is resting on her hip. Her head was tilted slightly forward. Her legs were together.

Brooke shouted out the words as she held her transformation medallion above her head. Brooke then closed her eyes then her transformation medallion disappeared. Then her silver tiara appeared with the sea green jewel in the center. The jewel them emitted a blinding flash of sea green light that surrounded Brooke giving her the feel of her body being surround by the cool summer water.

Then from behind her a wave formed and crashed down on top of her, she didn't stir. Once the water resided, Brooke stood in it. A small bit of water at her feet moved up her knees forming boots, which were transparent. The water then slowly moved up her body. Her waist was then hidden beneath water, the form of her skirt could be seen the water continued to move up and it covered her upper body then it moved down her arms. Then rain began to fall from an unseen source, covering her body.

As the water touched her arms it reveled her gloves then her body suit. Next came her skirt and the rain slowly tapered off, but not before her boots were reviled. The heart in the center of her chest was reveled. From the heart came more water it formed her bow. Then the bow in her back appeared in the same fashion.

And Sailor Shaula was reveled fully transformed. She did her transformation pose. Her pose was her kneeling down on one knee, her elbows rest on that knee, her head rested in her hands and she had a big smile which spread across her face.

Madison shouted out the phrase as she held her transformation medallion above her head. Madison then closed her eyes then her transformation medallion disappeared. Her hair was then lifted off of her shoulders. I strong heat surrounded and circled around her.

Then her silver tiara appeared with the scarlet jewel in the center. The jewel them emitted a blinding flash of lava colored light that surrounded Madison giving her the feel of sitting in front of a warm fire on a cold winter day.

Then from the ground lava erupted and shot up into the air high above her head. The lava then began to circle around her body moving upward as it spun around her body. The body suit of her uniform then appeared. The heart then formed and from the heart came lava that went out and formed into the shape of a bow.

Lava came up around her feet forming boots much like the bow that were black with orange and red cracks. They looked like drying lava. Then lava dropped from above and landed on her arms forming her gloves. Soon afterward more lava appeared around her waist forming her skirt.

At that point the lava flew up from the ground, causing lave to be thrown up into the air. The wall of lava from behind her collapses and when the lava then suddenly dies down, everything is quite and the lava that forms her uniform dries and shows it in the material form and the right colors. And Sailor Spica is reveled fully transformed. She did her transformation pose. Her pose was her standing with one leg in front of the other; her left hand on her hip. Her right hand is at the back of her neck. Her head is looking straight ahead and she has an angry look in her eyes as the flare like hot lava. 

The five girls quickly ran forth. “Alright any suggestions?” Asked Sailor Pollux.

“I can try to burn it with my lava attacks, Sailor Sun.” Sailor Spica turned towards the leader. “If we combine our attacks we should be able to get rid of the vines covering the entrance without hurting anyone.” Sailor Spica suggested.

Sailor Sun nodded her head.

"SUN FIRE BEAM . . . . . BURN!"

"SPICA LAVA RIVER . . . CHAR!"

Sailor Sun stood with her legs together, and then she put her hands together as if she were going to pray. She closed her eyes and slowly lifted her hands towards the sky. During the whole time Sailor Sun's hair was blowing fiercely around her.  There was a bright flash of golden and orange light, which caused her body to shimmer, then a large golden fireball spun around Sailor Sun then turned and headed towards the café’s doors. When it reached the door the fireball began to spin around it searing the vines.

Sailor Spica jumped up into the air and did a flip, from the ground appeared a opening a few seconds a gush of lave came up, Sailor Spica stood on the lava that bobbed above the ground. The heat around her was emissive but didn’t seem to bother her. As she did a back flip back the lava plunged down onto the ground and roared towards the café’s door at a surprisingly fast speed. Seeming to leap up into the air the river of lava plunged down upon the un-expecting vines burning them instantly.

The vines fell as a pile of ashes at the door, leaving enough space for the group to go through, as soon as they entered the vines formed again. Blocking their only entrance and exit.

Sailor Sun pulled out her saber and began to hack carefully away from the vines.

Kevin struggled more in the vines, which held him tight, space parted above the booth, which he sat at leaving room for Kurai-ki and Shi-ryuu to appear. “Now doesn’t this work out wonderfully? We get free pickings!” Shi-ryuu smirked as he came down and landed on the vine-covered floor looking at Kevin, Jon and Hannah in turn.

“Three little pigs all in a row, which one to pick off to make Sailor Sun hate us even more as foes.” Shi-ryuu walked forth. “Which one first Kurai-ki? I never thought that everything would work out this well! I can easily get three Heart Stones, which will affect not only Sailor Sun but also the rest of the Stellar Senshi.” Shi-ryuu pointed out.

The Stellar Senshi tried to make their way through the vine maze, which wasn’t an easy task. Not only were the vines thick, but also the group had no idea which direction they were heading or where Kevin, Jon, and Hannah were. Not to mention the fact that the vines had sharp vines which would catch on their scout uniforms.

Sailor Sun grunted as she slashed at another series of vines quickly and ran through the open path while she could with the others. Once they were in the new part the vines, which were just cut, formed again and locked them into a small area. Slashing again and again the girls finally started to get somewhere.

“Maybe I will take a Heart Stone from each of you?” Shi-ryuu pointed out happily.

Kevin shook his head. Shi-ryuu had the vines removed from his mouth to let him talk. “What do you have something important to say?” He asked crossing his arms across his chest.

The tightly bound blond nodded his head. “Yes, take my Heart Stone, just leave alone Hannah and Jon. Please.” He pleaded. This giving Kevin more time to squirm from his bands upon his arms. Thorns slowly cut into the back oh his wrist. He was cutting it close.

“Fine then we will take yours, just to scream!” Shi-ryuu said as he flew over towards Kevin. Putting out his hand a light erupted from Kevin’s chest. He groaned in pain.

Shi-ryuu soon found himself screaming in pain. He grabbed his right arm and turned to see the blade of Sailor Sun’s saber being pushed through the wall of vines. “STOP RIGHT THERE!” Sailor Sun screamed as she ran up with her sword in front of her.

“Kurai-ki, see to them! I have a Heart Stone to steal.” Shi-ryuu smirked as he went back with his hand stretched out, the light enveloped Kevin’s chest, the pain got worse and worse the longer Shi-ryuu held his hand before him.

A great light surround Kevin, his aura throbbed around him. Shi-ryuu began to groan in pain as well from the light emitting from Kevin, for it was of pure energy.

“What, what is this?” The tall demon asked. Everyone had stopped their battle to look at the scene unfolding.

Sailor Sun screamed again. “No Kevin, stop Shi-ryuu, you will kill him! Stop!” She screamed as she ran towards Kevin.

Kevin could feel as his Heart Stone slowly left his body, his aura was throbbing more now. He turned and smiled at Sailor Sun. “I will always love you Jessica, Princess Cassandra, Sailor Sun. You have to continue to fight strong.” He groaned in pain again and slightly winced. “Don’t ever forget that, you have to fight for me!” He smiled and let out a final painful sounding scream. A single tear ran down his face.

Shi-ryuu disappeared along with Kurai-ki. The vines slowly disappeared. Sailor Sun ran to Kevin’s side. She held his limp body in her arms. Tears streaming down her face. Kevin’s tear sparkled and fell onto Sailor Sun’s brooch, onto the Golden Illusion Jewel. It throbbed slightly; showing the symbol of the Daystar then went back to the normal golden color.

“Kevin! Kevin no! This can’t be happening! Open you eyes, you have to open your eyes! I can’t do this without you, no, please Kevin, Prince Sol, Daystar Knight my love!” Sailor Sun screamed. He body began to convulse beside Kevin’s limp body.

Pulling him to the floor Sailor Sun hugged him tightly, soaking her uniform with tears as well as his. She couldn’t stop crying, she couldn’t even see through her blurred eyes as she looked at Kevin, her love lying there not moving.

“No,” she sobbed, “you can’t leave me, not now, I need you now, I need you to fight, to fight alongside me! You can leave now!” She cried sadly, her lip quivering. “You can’t, you can’t go.” She said quietly as she clung to his chest with one hand while with the other she pounded the floor hard beside her.

Hard enough to break the tile, also hard enough to make her hand bleed. “You can’t, we have so much we have ye to do! You can’t leave me!” She screamed as she sobbed more.
