"Well aren't ya going to invite me in Jessy?" the girl; Tasha
asked in a slang that sounded oddly enough like a Brooklyn one.
With an indifferent shrug she pulled out a cigarette, and a
lighter. She smiled a little and then lit up in front of Jessica
who just blinked as she looked at her cousin.
"Ta…Tas…Tasha?"
she said in shock, not believing that this girl, this person was
her cousin whom she hadn't seen for more then five years and
back then Tasha had been smaller, nor did she have the neon
green stripes in her hair, or the punkish look she had
developed. She had also never smoked before, nor did she seem as
arrogant, and self-assured in her walk.
She
also didn't have the sadness in her eyes that was there now,
Jessica thought to herself as she looked at her cousin.
*Five years* she thought in shock, she hadn't seen Tasha since
before her aunt and uncle (Tasha's mom and dad) had been killed
in a small shop by an overzealous thug and his friends.
“What brings you here?” Jessica asked as she continued to stare
wide eyed at her cousin. Footsteps could be heard coming.
Jessica quickly grabbed the cigarette from Tasha’s hand, threw
it onto the ground, and stepped on it.
Mr.
And Mrs. Walker along with everyone else came into the
entranceway. Jon and Hannah stood behind their father while Mrs.
Walker ran over to her niece. “Tasha! It has been so long!”
Harriet wrapped her arms around Tasha’s lithe body.
"Uhh yeah" she said a
little quietly, feeling confined already. She didn’t really want
to be here, and had tried to sneak away many times, all of which
got her ending up in juvie for a while.
A
tear came down Harriet’s face. "I didn't know if you would come
or not." The woman turned back to her husband. "We have your
room ready."
"Room?" Jessica asked confused. "Is Tasha staying
with us?" The red head asked looking from her mother to her
cousin.
She shrugged as she put her lighter back in her
pocket, not saying a word, not wanting to talk to them at all.
If anything she didn’t want to be here, she’d rather be in San
Fran then here now.
Jessica was still confused, but before she could question
further Alissa stepped forward. "I think we are going to head
out now Jessica, we will see you later tonight. Tell us what
happens." Alissa said in a softer undertone.
Tasha rolled her eyes a little, before she looked at Harriet.
"Umm can I see my room now Harriet?" she asked in somewhat tired
tone, as her aunt stiffened at the way her name was so
pronounced, she hadn't expected Tasha to be so rude and
disrespectful.
Everyone else was shocked at the way Tasha treated her aunt and
uncle, the only one she seemed to talk normally to was Jessica;
who was very confused at how her cousin was acting, Alissa,
Jennifer, Brooke and Madison all left with Nova.
"Yes
Tasha oh course, we thought that you might like a more private
room so we turned the upper floor of the garage into a bedroom.
It is a fair size and even has it's own bathroom." Jeffery said
speaking for the first time.
"Thanks" was all she said, the smile on her face
never meeting her eyes, which seemed sad and subdued as she
headed for her room, not bothering to say hi to anyone.
"I never knew you guys were going to make that
into a bedroom, and how come I didn't know Tasha was coming to
live with us." Jessica asked hurt from being left out of the
current news.
"We will
talk about that later, Jessica would you mind showing Tasha her
room? I have to go make supper and your father has to find a
place for that motorcycle." Harriet explained as she looked out
at the bike parked on the sidewalk.
She
found Tasha looking out at an open window. "Tasha do you want to
go to your room now? We should really sit down and have a long
talk I want to know what has happened in your life for the past
five years." Jessica said with a smile. Eclipse padded alongside
Jessica eyeing Tasha with questioning eyes.
"Yeah, I
guess" she said a little sadly as she played with her lighter,
*why did Jessica and the others have to be so nice, * she
thought to herself bitterly.
"What's
wrong?" Jessica asked as she led the way to the back porch where
there was a door to the garage. Up the steps they went and
Jessica opened the hatch, which lead up into the finished
bedroom.
"Huh?"
she asked before she looked away, "ohh nothing, nothing’s wrong
at all darn it" she said as Jessica blinked a little surprised
at her cousin's language.
Jessica
decided to shrug it off for now. "Alright Tasha this is your
room, I'm going to go get your bags." Jessica said as she
quietly turned and left.
Tasha
nodded then sighed, she had never really wanted to come here.
But no the stupid social worker had made her come and by now she
really wished that she hadn't picked the woman's pocket.
Tasha
nodded then sighed, she had never really wanted to come here.
But no the stupid social worker had made her come and she really
wished that she hadn't picked the woman's pocket. She looked at
her right hand, contemplating buying a knife. Each time she
tried to kill herself, something stopped her from going all the
way, what she didn't know.
Jessica
returned shortly with an armload of black suitcases and flung
them down on the bed. She had broken Tasha's thoughts for the
moment anyway, something telling her that she should be glad
that she had come back sooner then she had thought.
"Tha…thanks"
she said softly as she looked away. *Slag it! Why can’t they
have just left me alone? * She thought to herself.
"No
problem." Jessica said with a smile. Eclipse butted her leg.
"You remember Eclipse don't you?" Jessica asked as she indicated
the large Doberman pincher.
"Yeah,
he remember the firecracker thing still?" she asked as she
smirked a bit as Eclipse narrowed his eyes upon remembering that
Tasha had tried to tie a firecracker to his left front leg, and
light it when she was only six.
"I think
he remembers, please don't do anything like that again." Jessica
pleaded as she stepped between the dog and cousin, for both
their safety. Both Tasha and Eclipse didn’t really care for each
other that well, why she didn’t know.
"But
that was kind of fun" she said in that 'I'm the bad girl on the
block' voice of hers, though Jessica knew that she was just
doing that so that Jessica wouldn't ask her what was wrong again
"Do you
need anything else? Did you drive all the way here?" Jessica
asked as she looked out the window at the motorcycle still
parked outside.
"Yeah"
Tasha said with a grin. "Was fun flashing the drivers of passing
cars," she said with a flirtatious wink as Jessica blinked in
shock at her cousin.
"You've
changed a lot since I say you last." Jessica said in a neutral
tone. She definitely didn't like the change, which her cousin
had gone through. Yet losing your parents would most likely do
that to someone, especially the way it had happened. Tasha had
been so young when they had died. Jessica was worried for her
cousin; there was something about the way she acted and looked
that frightened her.
Tasha
shrugged indifferently. "Ohh come on Jess live a little, it's
all harmless fun." She said with a grin.
Jessica
was about to say her view on the subject but a call came from
the house. "Tasha, Jessica!" Jon's voice called.
Tasha
looked at where the call had echoed from, and once more the
bravado she’d been flashing died, that sad look in her eyes.
“Why can’t they just leave me be” she whispered to herself, not
knowing that Eclipse had caught the words and was carefully
digesting them mentally.
"Come on Tasha, Jessica!"
Jon said as he stopped up the stairs. "Mommy and daddy want you
guys to come downstairs." Tasha sighed a little as she followed
Jessica downstairs, she hated this, she wanted out of this town,
away from the reminders of her old life, and she wanted to be
back with her friends most of all.
Sitting
down at the large white kitchen table Jessica waited for her
mother and father to start the conversation. “We are sorry for
not telling you and your brother and sister that Tasha was
coming.” Jeffery said softly.
“We
didn’t want to get your hopes up incase Tasha ended up not
coming for one reason or another.” Harriet explained.
“Well
you could have given me some fair warning.” Jessica stated as
she folded her arms across her chest.
Jeffery
placed his arm on Jessica’s shoulder. “Now come on dear, don’t
be angry at us, she is here now and will be here for sometime,
you have to remember we are her only family left.”
“Why did
Tasha come here? I thought she was living with a Foster Family
in the states.” Jessica pointed out.
“She
was, but she ended up moving from foster family to foster
family. No one would keep her. Something has happened to poor
Tasha to change her for the worse I am afraid. Being too young
to live on her own and us being her only family left we offered
to take her in.” Harriet made clear.
“Why is
she so…?” Jessica paused as she tried to think of the right
word. “Rebellious? She used to be some nice and polite, sure she
was the trouble maker when we were younger but nothing as bad as
what she appears to act like now.” Jessica explained.
Jeffery
shook his head. “I’m not too sure of that myself but I think her
rebellious nature and total lack of sense when it comes to rules
is why Tasha is with us now and not another foster home. We will
just have to wait it out and hope for the best.”
“The
social worker I spoke to on the phone said that Tasha had been
living on the streets for a few years” Harriet said a little
sadly. “And that she had also run away from foster homes before”
she replied as she and her husband shared a sad look. “They
wonder if she should see a specialist,” she stated, as Jessica
gasped in horror as she thought of the implications of what her
mother had said.
Jessica
tossed and turned as she thought of her cousin. Tasha had
changed from the little girl Jessica had grown up with. She was
much different and that look in her eyes, she was harboring some
deep secrets, and from what her mother had told both her and her
father, Tasha had been living on the streets, and had ran away
on more then one occasion. But what could she do? Tasha didn't
want to talk about anything; it was as if Tasha was trying to
shut everyone out of her life.
As soon as Tasha was sure
that everyone else was asleep she got up and changed quickly
then threw on her duster and started walking quietly down the
stairs and went outside, she yawned as she pulled out a
cigarette lit up and inhaled the smoke. She really hated being
stuck inside all the time and what was going on with the
Walkers, why were they being so nice to her? No one else had
ever been nice save for Kat and the others, she clenched her
left hand into a fist. But they weren’t here. They were in San
Francisco and Tasha was stuck here in this miserable excuse for
a town.
She
frowned as she breathed in the smoke, not caring whether or not
it would kill her. *Those were good times* she thought to
herself as she continued to smoke, not knowing that Eclipse had
heard her and had gone to get Jessica. "Maybe I should just run;
that'll show them, and then I could go back to San Fran and have
some fun,” she said to herself, a plan forming in her mind.
She
smiled to herself, Kat and the others were her real family, they
had taken her in and had taken care of her when she needed it,
no one else had. They had been five girls, living on the
streets, doing what they wanted, when they wanted, with whom
they wanted. A street gang, they had lived and done things their
way.
Taking
another drag on her cigarette she headed towards the garage,
where her cycle was.
Jessica
slowly made her way down the stairs and then into the kitchen,
she watched Tasha go through the door. "Where is she going?"
Jessica asked Eclipse as the dog carefully followed Tasha.
With a
yawn Tasha got onto her cycle, started the ignition and zoomed
off her hair flying behind her as the cycle roared along the
street and out into the night. "Now what?" Jessica asked herself
angrily.
The
large black and brown Doberman pincher looked up at Jessica.
"Quickly if we move fast enough me might be able to catch up to
her." He said as he looked at her.
Tasha
laughed as she revved the cycle up, she was going faster then
the speed limit and having a very good time as she zoomed along
the road, the trees and passing cars aiding the cool breeze.
With a smile she zoomed into the bike lane and turned left.
Jessica had transformed
into Sailor Sun making it easier for her to keep up with her
speeding cousin. Red hair rushing behind her, as she made great
leaps and bounds.
Tasha
smiled as she arrived just outside of town, and stopped near a
log cabin. Already there were other bikers walking past her,
like her they too were getting ready for the illegal biker
tourney that was getting underway. She handed a man her
admission fee then winked at one of the other bikers, as she
pulled out a small bag filled with something white and took out
some of the white substance.
Sailor
Sun and Eclipse came to a panting stop behind a large tree,
which gave them a vantage point over the collecting bikers. She
didn't know what to say or do but decided that she had better
transform out of her Sailor Uniform.
Jessica
held her transformation wand above her head, but instead of
chanting the transformation phrase she muttered a few words.
"Solaris Star Medallion transform me into a biker chick."
Jessica shrugged her shoulders and was covered with gold and red
sparkles.
She
looked down at her new leather pants and coat. Her hair was up
in an easy bun and she wore a dark shirt with a pattern of a
dragon on the front.
"How do I look?" She asked Eclipse; the dog just
shook his head and jumped down from the large branch he had been
standing on.
Tasha groaned as she sniffed the powder before
her and smiled hazily, Jessica staring in shock, horror, and
worry as she watched her cousin who staggered around for a bit,
in a daze.
Tasha
yawned. Stretching she hopped onto her cycle then flipped off
one of the other biker's who glared at her as they waited for
the flag to drop. With a quick motion a man waved a flag and
instantly all twelve cyclists zoomed off onto the highway,
Tasha’s bike the last one to leave.
Jessica stared in shock. Not even thinking she
grabbed one of the bikes off to the side and revved up the
engine. Screeching the tires after Tasha and the other bikers.
The large Doberman jumped on the back and dug his claws into the
set so he wouldn't fall off as the bike roared to life and shot
out after the other bikers.
The pine trees gave off their pine scent as the
bikers roared along, like banshees screaming in the night, their
tires squealed as they constricted along the road, which was in
need of some repair. Some occasionally fighting with each other
as they continued on their trek through the area that they had
code-named Redwood Forest. Occasionally one could see a deer and
a small river on the right side of the railing that separated
the road from the small ravine.
Tasha was already in tenth place and gaining
fast, her thoughts focused on one thing; winning the race and
getting the money to get out of the town, buy herself a fake id,
that would allow her to not get into trouble with the Social
Workers again.
She laughed as she
swerved into another biker, which led to a fistfight between her
and the other biker, right before she pulled out a club and
smacked the biker twice in the head, the blows sending her
opponent falling off his bike and onto the road. She laughed
again as she revved the cycle and zoomed up past a pair of
bikers who were engaged in a slugging match, *almost there* she
thought to herself.
Jessica eyes went wide as she had to dodge the
biker’s body as he rolled on the road grumbling in pain. *How
could Tasha almost kill a man without even thinking twice about
it? * Jessica thought to herself as the man groaned and quickly
got off the street before a car could hit him.
Tasha laughed as she got into another fight this
time with two other bikers, she pulled out a can of mace,
sprayed it into the face of one biker then kicked the other one
in the groin and they and their bikes skidded into the asphalt
and she zoomed along, she was now in seventh place and gaining
on the biker in sixth place.
Jessica
had to turn sharply and almost feel off to avoid the two bikes,
which came screeching towards her throwing up sparks. Eclipse
growled deep in his throat. What was Jessica to do? Her cousin
seemed out of control and would obviously not listen to reason,
especially since Jessica was in disguise.
Tasha grinned as she swerved, nearly avoiding the
speeding car. "Idiot" she murmured as she heard the sound of a
police cycle in the background. “Ohh slag the cops!” she said as
she snarled in distaste as she looked in her rear view mirror
and saw the silhouette of a police motorcycle gaining fast on
her and another biker. “Just what I bloody well need!” she said
angrily as she hurriedly threw the bag of drugs into the brush,
she wasn’t going to get caught with drugs, not here, not now,
especially not with the social workers just waiting to get an
excuse to put her in some padded cell.
Eclipse turned around and saw the red and blue
flashing light on the front of the police cycle drive towards
them. Jessica forced the bike into the next gear and revved the
engine, she had to catch up to Tasha and get her to stop the
race before the cops caught her.
Tasha laughed as she zoomed up to fifth place,
the sound of Anarchy in the UK blaring through the radio on her
cycle, she slammed into another biker, causing him to skid out
of control and slam headfirst into a park bench, she then
swerved to avoid a frightened deer as she took fifth place and
zoomed up towards the last four riders. She wasn’t going to give
up, not when she needed the money in order to leave on her own.
Well at least she didn't hurt the deer. Jessica
thought to herself as she drove past the police cycle closing
in. Jessica was almost right alongside Tasha's bike now; the
problem was how to get her to stop.
Tasha laughed as she kicked the forth place
biker, knocking him down off his bike. She roared into forth
place and smiled as she slammed into the third biker, who
punched her three times before she grabbed the other biker’s
fist and twisted it hard enough for the bone to snap. As the
other biker veered off with a broken hand she took third place.
The second biker nodded to the first and then
slid back to where Tasha was, pulling a club the second biker, a
woman with red hair tried to slam the club into Tasha’s bike,
but before she could Tasha’s left hand shot out and she grabbed
the club and yanked it away, then slammed it into the other
woman’s helmet, knocking the other woman down, just as she
passed by a car.
The horn of the passing car blared in Jessica's
ear as she swerved and continued to follow Tasha, she had to do
something and she had to do it now. Leaning forward she held
down the throttle and zoomed up so that she was neck to neck
with Tasha.
Tasha zoomed alongside the lead biker, a man
named Biker. “Yeah you, I was hoping that you were here for
this” she said as she punched him viciously then yanked his
right arm and judoed him somewhat, sending him onto the hard
road with a sickening thud.
Tasha then tried to shove Jessica off to the
side, a determined look in her eyes as she then slammed her bike
into Jessica's "Sorry but a girl's got to do what a girl's got
to do" she said as she tried again and again to get the other
biker to fall off her bike.
Jessica found it hard to keep the bike steady,
Eclipse helped in balancing the weight. In anger the Doberman
pincher snapped at Tasha trying to get her attention.
Tasha snarled back then pulled out a chain and
threw one end onto the throttle of the cycle and forced it to
turn right, long enough for her to get ahead of them.
Jessica pounded her fist on the bike and
struggled to regain control of her bike, the distance growing
between herself and Tasha, how was she going to get her to stop,
how was she going to get Tasha to listen to reason.
Tasha swerved into another lane and then turned
to the right, she only had one more mile to go and she wasn't
going to let anyone screw this up for her, not now. Jessica
managed to get a little extra speed and caught up to Tasha
again, but what could she say to her? Tasha growled, and swerved
her bike into the other one; she then punched Jessica hard in
the face, and tried to punch the other biker out.
Jessica recoiled from the sudden impact and put
her hand up to her bloody lip. Within seconds Jessica had to
dodge another fist flying in her direction. Tasha then kicked
the bike itself, and slammed her bike into the other and it
nearly skidded away and her cycle zoomed ahead.
Groaning in announce Jessica leaned forward yet
again and the motorcycle speed up. Jessica this time with a well
placed kick to the side of Tasha's bike and yelled angrily.
“Pull over!" she demanded as she tried to force Tasha to pull
over.
"Like slag I will!" Tasha said as she pulled out
the club she'd grabbed from one of the other bikers and smashed
it into the steering controls of the bike, sparks flying from
the steering of Jessica’s bike.
Jessica screamed out in fear. "Tasha stop this!"
She screamed again as the front of the bike began to wobble.
Tasha just shrugged as she zoomed ahead and onto the finish
line, the flag dropping behind her as she roared into the
parking lot. She stopped her bike and dismounted, she smiled
genuinely for the first time in many years as she headed over to
where the judges were.
Jessica managed to get the
bike under control, and get to the finish line in one piece. The
police cycle wasn't far behind; in fact from the sound of it, it
was gaining fast she thought to herself, she was shocked and
shaken by her cousin’s actions. Tasha just smirked as she
collected the cash from the man who she had paid her cover
charge fee to, and she watched as the police cycle zoomed on
past, not even bothering to stop.
Jessica dismounted the
bike, which she had stolen, only now did she realize the crime
she had now committed. Hurriedly she walked over to where Tasha
was standing, smoking a cigarette, and looking for all the world
like someone who had had a good time, not someone who cared
about the other people that were also in what Jessica now
realized was an underground and highly illegal biker tournament.
Tasha smirked as she
inhaled the smoke from her cigarette, and looked at the wad of
cash that she had just gotten. *A few more payments and then I
can get out of here* she thought to herself as she looked at the
other biker and smirked. “No hard feelings but I need the
money,” she said as she walked over and bought herself a
whiskey, opening the bottle she started drinking right in front
of Jessica as she began to flirt with one of the other bikers,
she winked in Jessica’s direction and then began kissing the
other biker in front of her cousin, before Tasha slipped her
hand into the guy’s right pocket and took out the his wallet.
“Nice except I don’t date pigs!” she said just as she kneed the
biker in the groin, and then slammed her helmet into the man’s
face, knocking him on the ground.
The other bikers just
watched for a moment before they went back to their business, no
one even bothering to help the unconscious man up from where he
had slumped to the floor. Tasha smiled as she walked over to her
bike and began to clean and work on it. She sighed. The throttle
needed work again; it was always pulling to the left. With great
care she began to work on fixing it, using a small wrench and a
few other tools to correct the problem, she didn’t even bother
to stand as Jessica walked over to her.
“There a
problem?” she asked icily as she looked at Jessica coldly and
stood up, removing her helmet and getting into a fighting
stance, her shoulders and posture those of a street brawler and
a thug who was spoiling for a fight, *as if she hadn’t had more
then one already* Jessica thought to herself as she looked at
her cousin and resolved herself for a talk with her cousin.
“You
almost got a lot of people hurt,” Jessica said slowly, not
knowing where to begin as she looked at her cousin who was
looking at her like a threat.
“They got in my way, plus I
need the money.” Tasha stated simply, “besides it was all in
fun,” she pointed out.
“Fun? Fun!” Jessica stated
in shock. “How could it be fun to almost kill people!” She
demanded as she grabbed her cousin’s arm.
“Let … Go … Of … My … Arm”
Tasha said coldly, in a voice devoid of any emotion.
“No I think you need to
have a talk to whoever your parents or guardians are,” Jessica
stated before Tasha grabbed her by the arm and flipped her onto
the ground.
“I said
let go,” Tasha stated as she walked towards her bike again.
Jessica stood up, kicked a stone on the ground, and walked off
towards home in a huff telling all of her problems to Eclipse on
the way. “Stupid Tasha, what happened to her? She used to be so
nice when we were younger! Everything has changed now. Smoking,
stealing, drinking, the only thing missing is a boyfriend who is
also some weirdo demon trying to take over the earth.” She said
as she looked at her guardian who nodded.
Tasha
yawned as she finished fixing her bike. “Stupid boring town” she
said to herself, “nothing ever happens here” she said to
herself.
At
first there was a small flash, then a blood red light began to
emanate from a spot in an abandoned junkyard, slowly, as if
blood was pouring the light began to ooze, before it burst into
several different beams of energy and then swirled and coalesced
together in an instant. With a roar of energy the vortex morphed
into a blood-red portal, with tendrils of energy bursting with
what felt like evil itself the portal grew a little and slowly.
A man
stepped out, a man in red and black ninja garb, save that he
wore no mask and his eyes were all blue, with no pupils. He had
spiked gauntlets and was lean and muscular. With a knowing smirk
he waited until the portal closed and he then walked out onto
the streets and the man looked around. Before him he could see
humans walking around, minding their own business. He scowled in
disgust and distaste as he watched the humans.
“Disgusting race” he spat disdainfully as he
walked down the street, none of the humans noticing him or the
way he dressed. “Why the Creator created them and why the elder
gods protect them is entirely beyond me!” he said as he grabbed
a man, dragged him into an alley, and knocked him unconscious.
There was the sound of a heavy body hitting the
ground slowly blood began to form in the other man’s mouth, “and
they can get hurt easily!” the being stated as he took some of
the blood and wrote strange archaic symbols on his left arm.
“And why father wants this forsaken place is also beyond me!” he
snapped angrily as his form rippled then took the shape of the
young man that he had just knocked unconscious, draining the
life from him. “Ohh lookie, a nice fit” he stated sarcastically
before he walked down the street, and into the night…
